Is your business ready for hybrid working?

Posted on 08th September 2020 at 09:15

The coronavirus pandemic, by necessity, pushed many businesses into adopting home working. And technologies such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom became a mainstay of many people’s working lives as a result.

But although the UK is now emerging from lockdown and many staff are returning to their offices, it appears that employers’ and employees’ mindsets have in many cases been changed – and that ‘hybrid working’ could be here to stay.

What is hybrid working?

Hybrid working is a combination of remote, semi-remote and office-based working. Employees might work from home for part of the week and work from the office on other days, or split the day between working at a company HQ and working from another location.

Hybrid working isn’t for every company. But the advantages to the hybrid working model are broad and include:

When implemented correctly, hybrid working can increase efficiency and productivity, while potentially saving businesses money on office costs in the long term.

A recent survey by Adecco Group UK and Ireland, entitled Resetting Normal: Defining the New Era of Work, found that 77% of employees would prefer hybrid working, whilst 79% thought it was important that their company implemented more flexibility in how and where staff can work.

In addition, a recent survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development  (CIPD) reported that employers expect that the proportion of people working from home on a regular basis once the Coronavirus crisis is over will increase to 37 per cent compared to 18 per cent before the pandemic.
