Energy efficiency – and reducing our carbon footprint – are of primary concern in all areas of our operations. Throughout the years, we have increased our emphasis on implementing environmentally-friendly practices and we are committed to environmental sustainability.
We operate an environmentally-friendly travel plan in conjunction with Sunderland City Council, which includes the promotion of car sharing, cycling to work and the use of public transport links. As a result of the effective implementation of the plan, we received a bronze award for Go Smarter to Work in 2018 from Sunderland City Council.
We encourage employees to use the most environmentally-friendly option for business travel and use business travel management information as a tool to reduce our carbon emissions.
We have two Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles in our car fleet with plans to include more in the future. In addition, we have installed electric vehicle charging points at our premises to further promote greener, cleaner travel choices for our employees and to assist visitors to our site who may be using electric vehicles.
In 2012, we installed a solar £38,000 PV system to our headquarters in Sunderland, which has since put more than 51,000KWH back into the grid. Additionally, we have invested time and resources into ensuring that our building benefits from the latest energy-saving methods for our day-to-day business operations.
Where possible, we have replaced our lighting with low energy LED lights and have a PI system in place, which controls lights in low use areas, providing further energy savings. Other environmentally-friendly practices implemented at our site include auto shut off taps, low flush toilet systems, smart hand driers and heat traps.
Our working practices, such as enabling home working, hot desking, video conferencing and utilising cloud technology have been designed to reduce our carbon footprint. We also run a paper recycling scheme.
