O2 has announced that its 5G connectivity will launch in October this year.
The initial 5G rollout will be across areas of Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Slough and Leeds.
5G is the next generation of mobile networks, providing faster download speeds and coverage when lots of people are using the network at the same time. 5G will improve the service you get with 4G, making it easier for you to stay connected when it matters most.
The towns and cities benefitting from O2’s 5G roll out by the end of 2019 are Belfast, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Edinburgh, Eton, Guildford, Leeds, Leicester, Lisburn, Norwich, Nottingham, Reading, Slough, Stoke and Windsor.
By summer 2020, O2 is planning on network rollout in an additional 30 towns and cities in the following locations: Aberdeen; Bradford; Brighton; Birkenhead; Birmingham; Cambridge; Glasgow; Hove; Kingston; Liverpool; Luton; Manchester; Milton Keynes; Newbury; Newcastle; Northampton; Plymouth; Portsmouth; Sheffield; Southampton, Sunderland; Warrington; and Wolverhampton.
O2’s 5G rollout strategy has been driven by data and insight that identifies where customers will benefit from 5G the most. The next-generation network will radically improve capacity and reliability in key locations, allowing customers to access super-fast speeds even during peak periods.
Key locations include train stations, important business areas and entertainment and sports venues, including The O2 and Twickenham Stadium.
For Cellular Solutions customers, who want to get 5G ready ahead of launch, the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be available to purchase from August 8 with the Xiaomi Mix 3 5G coming later in August. More devices are rolling out ahead of the launch. Get in touch with our team if you would like more information on 5G handsets.
Following the launch of 5G in October, a new range of tariffs will be available to business customers who want to take advantage of 5G’s capabilities. If you would like advice on your tariff and upgrading to 5G, contact our team.
Mike Bowers, managing director of Cellular Solutions, said: “As a member of the O2 Direct Partner Network, we’re delighted to see O2 rolling out 5G from October this year.
