New generation of iPhone technology revealed by Apple

Posted on 17th September 2018 at 11:16

We were immensely excited to watch Apple’s keynote speech last month, where CEO Tim Cook announced the update of the iPhone X handset with three new models – iPhone XS, XS Max and a lower-cost XR model.

The new iPhones look almost identical to their predecessors but bring a wealth of key spec upgrades. And with the XS Max boasting the largest ever screen on an iPhone, there was plenty to talk about…

Dual SIM support is among the features of XS and XS Max which can make a real difference to many business users. Both models will support the use of two phone numbers and data plans while using a physical SIM card and Apple’s integrated eSIM. Although the feature won’t be available at launch, according to Apple it will be enabled in a software update later on this year.

Other features of the X generation include a display with better dynamic range, wider stereo sound from speakers, and improved water resistance, battery life and Face ID speeds.

The whole X series uses Apple’s newly unveiled A12 Bionic processor – a six core chip, which is among the first in the industry to use a 7nm process.

The size of XS Max’s display was in the spotlight during the introduction of this model. It boasts a 6.5-inch screen – bigger than the iPhone 8 Plus (5.5 inches), while the XS has the same 5.8-inch screen size as the iPhone X.

Even though the screen size ratio has increased, the handset width remains very similar in size, meaning that the new X generation of iPhones shouldn’t be much harder to handle than any Plus-sized iPhone.

In addition, X series users will see an all-new camera system with improved performance in low light as the wide angle camera now a new sensor has larger pixels, and the telephoto rear camera has a wider aperture.

The front camera specifications remain similar to previous models however, it is considered to be generally a bit faster.

The XS and XS Max will offer a new to Apple 512GB capacity option, in addition to the 64GB and 256GB capacity options offered by the models’ predecessors.
