Northern RFC’s team – Northern Colts – are set to kick off the season in style after receiving a generous sponsorship from Cellular Solutions.
The Under-18 team will play their matches in brand-new shirts bearing the Cellular Solutions logo throughout the season 2017/2018.
Cellular Solutions’ managing director, Mike Bowers, is currently one of the Northern Colts’ coaches and two of his sons play for the club. Mike has had a significant involvement in Northern over the years and was more than happy to help with sponsoring new shirts for the upcoming season.
Northern RFC was set up in 1875 and is the oldest Rugby Football Club in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was renamed in its second season, when the team’s colours to red white and blue, which have since remained on the team strip throughout its history.
The club has more than 18 teams with players from ages of 6 to 18 and over, all with fully qualified coaches.
There are 400 registered members, most of which are parents and former rugby players who have retired but are keen on contributing and undertaking volunteering activities to make sure rugby in the North East continues to grow.
Mike Bowers said: “We are delighted that our sponsorship will benefit the Northern Colts, as in past seasons we have sponsored the balls for the entire mini and junior sections. We’re committed to providing opportunities to our local sports community, we understand the importance of having clubs such as Northern RFC for children to be involved in and anyone wanting to develop their rugby skills. We wish Northern Colts the best of luck this season.”
Speaking about the sponsorship, Northern RFC committee member and former president Ron Borley said: ““We are delighted to have received this sponsorship from Cellular Solutions. We rely heavily on sponsorship from local businesses and without our sponsors we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in now.”
Ron, who joined Northern RFC in 1971, added: “The North East business community has provided great support to the club, we continuously seek sponsors to help our teams such as the Northern Colts to take part in tournaments and fly the flag for North East rugby wherever they go.”
